One of the cla***ic stories Earl loved to tell was written by Russell Cromwell. (2) |

Seems that - back in the day, rumors began spreading rapidly that diamonds were being found all across South Africa, and making many rich, practically over night. (2) |

It wasn't long before news of this reached a certain Farmer who through the years had grown tired and weary of the struggle to plant and harvest his crops among the rocks and stones that cluttered his land. Hearing of this grand opportunity to end his struggles and to find riches, the Farmer decided to sell his farm and go in search of diamonds! |

Now, no one knows for sure, but the story goes that he never found the gems he was looking for and in desperation, eventually jumped from a bridge and drown. |

Meanwhile, and some time later, |

a friend of the new owner came by to visit and was standing, warming himself by the fireplace when he noticed a large stone that had been placed on the mantle. He picked it up, and taking a closer look, asked where the stone had been found? The new owner replied "Oh, they're everywhere!" |

It seems that the acres of stones and rocks that cluttered the farmland were really diamonds in their natural form but had gone unrecognized by both the previous and present owner until someone, with the knowledge of what diamonds in the rough look like, came along to identify what each had not been able to see - that they had, all the while, been standing in the middle of their very own, acres of diamonds! |

That farm became known later as, The Kimberly Diamond Mine. |

Of course, the moral of the story is that each of us may well, and probably is at this very moment, standing in the middle of our very own acres of diamonds, and before we go running off and looking elsewhere for our treasures, perhaps a visit from someone with the knowledge to help identify the gems that we already have, at our finger-tips could just prove to be very valuable - indeed! |
